The switches for the hazard warning lights, defroster, heating and air conditioning system, and fan speed may fail to illuminate correctly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Control and Displays." The driver may be distracted by switches that are too bright or by searching for switches that are too dim or not illuminated, increasing the risk of a crash.
