During a crash, the emergency exit window latch may fail and allow the window to open. As such, these windows fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release." Emergency windows that open during a crash may not properly retain passengers as intended, increasing their risk of injury.
