As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 208, "Occupation Crash Protection" and 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies." A seat belt that does not function properly may not adequately restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
