The tires may have been produced with an incorrectly manufactured rubber compound, which can cause the rubber adhesion to fail and result in tread separation. As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 119, "New Pneumatic Tires- Other than Passenger Cars." Tread separation can result in tire failure and a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
